As many of you know, we are working to assist veterans and surviving spouses electronically using VetPro a software platform that allows us to submit claims electronically. Last week VetPro instructors from California provided training for over 30 of our volunteers. As most of us from my generation are set in our ways of doing things, we were extremely impressed with their staff’s easy-to-understand instruction and training. We know that we will soon be able to increase our productivity by using their product.

We are immensely proud of our Board of Directors’ leadership and guidance for our Veterans Foundation. With these new tools and equipment, many veterans and surviving spouses will be assisted with their VA benefits claims without leaving their homes. The days of veterans standing in line for 10 to 12 hours to see our volunteers are a thing of the past. As we move forward our goal is to have volunteers able to work from home when possible. As COVID19 continues to impact so many people, we believe that all of us should do as much as possible from the safety of our homes.

Thanks to our new systems, we can accept all documentation and new claims electronically. If you have a claim or documentation, please provide records to us by visiting www.dkgvf.org/new.

If you mailed your claim please give us enough time to prepare it for filing.

The Board of Veterans Appeals has a new program to speed up the process for any claims that are part of the Legacy Appeals (those that have been in the system several years or more). For those of you who have an appeal that might fit into this program please contact Rhonda at 405-550-8806, Ext. 103 for more information.

We will be adding more volunteers as we progress into our new claims’ processes. If you’re interested in volunteering, please download and complete an application.

BY THE NUMBERS

Last week 8 veterans received a disability rating of 100% for their service-connected disabilities. These veterans will also be eligible for the state benefits of sales tax exemptions, property tax exemptions, and other services that our state provides for disabled veterans. 31 veterans were awarded disability ratings from 10% to 90%. This group of men and women will be eligible for VA Health Care, and some of them may also be eligible for other state benefits.

GIVING

If you would like to help us make a difference, we welcome your support. We spend over $30,000 each month in direct support of the veterans and family members we serve. We transport many homeless veterans to our Norman location each week to help make a difference in the lives of the men and women who have served in the military.

As you know, we are a 501 (c) 3 non-profit and are wholly dependent on donations from the people we serve and local grants. A government entity does not fund us; all the funds it takes to operate our facility and assist veterans with medical testing. Other expenses come in the form of grants from local companies or other veterans. For those who would like to support the program, your gifts are always appreciated and may be tax-deductible. You can also support us by purchasing items from our Amazon charity list to stock our food pantry and shop AmazonSmile with us as the charity – we will receive .5% of your eligible purchases.

If you are interested in including us in a gift, please contact us at 405-550-8806, ext. 101. Monetary donations can be made online or mailed to PO Box 592, Washington, OK, 73093.
