A LETTER FROM DALE K. GRAHAM
As we work to assist veterans and surviving spouses of deceased veterans during this pandemic, I want each of you to know that we are continuing to make a difference in the lives of veterans and their families. Each week we are receiving over one hundred claims from the men and women who have served in our military. Processing claims remotely, without the veteran present, takes longer than when we are physically with the veteran. We hope you will understand the delay in processing each claim.
Many of you are aware of the triage system we use where our most experienced volunteers review each veteran’s claim in order to determine the best course of action. Many of us are working every day to do our part to help a veteran or surviving spouse receive the benefits they are eligible to receive from the Department of Veterans Affairs.
Did you know that an injury or disability could be service-connected even if it occurred while the veteran was off duty? This could happen if he or she was in an automobile accident or became ill while off duty or on leave. For example, National Guard and Reserve members who are injured while going to a weekend drill or annual training or on their way home may also be eligible to receive VA benefits.
When you are mailing us your DBQ’s or other types of medical evidence, please include a photocopy of your DD-214, a copy of your last percentage letter from the VA, and the 2 forms located on our website. Please include all of these items in one envelope when you mail to us. If you have been denied for any claim prior, also send a copy of the denial letter from the VA. When needed, we may call clients to gather additional information. Our mailing address is PO Box 592, Washington, OK 73093.
Our Board of Directors continues to search for a way to reopen our facility to a limited number of veterans and surviving spouses. We are confident that this will happen when it is safe for both volunteers and veterans to gather in our building.

BY THE NUMBERS
Last week 17 veterans received a disability rating of 100% for their service-connected disabilities. These veterans will also be eligible for the state benefits of sales tax exemptions, property tax exemptions, and other benefits that our state provides for disabled veterans.
28 veterans were awarded disability ratings from 10% to 90. This group of men and women will be eligible for VA Health Care, and some of them may also be eligible for other state benefits. 3 surviving spouses were also awarded benefits.
If you would like to help us make a difference, we welcome your support. We spend over $30,000 each month in direct support of the veterans and family members we serve. We transport many homeless veterans to our Norman location each week to help make a difference in the lives of the men and women who have served in the military.
As you know, we are a 501 (c) 3 non-profit and are wholly dependent on donations from the people we serve and local grants. We are not funded by a government entity, all the funds it takes to operate our facility and to assist veterans with medical testing, and other expenses come in the form of grants from local companies or other veterans.
For those of you who would like to support the program, your gifts are always appreciated and may be tax-exempt. You can shop items from our Amazon charity list to stock our food pantry and shop AmazonSmile with us as the charity – we will receive .5% of your eligible purchases.
If you are interested in including us in a gift, please contact Lora at 405-550-8806, ext. 101. Monetary donations can be made online or mailed to PO Box 592, Washington, OK, 73093.
