LETTER FROM DALE K. GRAHAM

To all the veterans and surviving spouses who have mailed their VA claims to us, we are adding more volunteers to our workforce to speed up our processing time. Due to the Pandemic, we do not know when it will be possible to start making appointments for all the veterans who need our help with their VA claims and questions. I will try to keep everyone updated on what we are doing to help during these trying times.

As we move forward to file all veterans and surviving spouses claims electronically, some of our volunteers will be working from home. The new virtual meetings are going to be how a lot of meetings take place. Last week I had a doctor’s appointment and did not even have to leave my home! Things are changing. Our little Post Office in Washington is packed with boxes and packages with the rural mail carriers having to return several times to pick up more of them. Our way of life is going to be quite different than what it was just a few years ago. I would never have imagined that we would be wearing a mask everywhere we go.

We will continue accepting claims that are mailed to our PO Box 592 Washington, Oklahoma 73093 address. If you are a new client and need to send your claim by mail, please visit our website at www.DKGVF.org/new and fill out an intake sheet and a list of your disabilities currently rated by VA or have been denied. Also, include a copy of your DD-214, a completed VA Form 21- 22A signed 2x, and a VA Form 21-0966 signed 1x.

If you are a current client and need to send your DBQs or other follow-up documents, you can also mail those to us or submit them here.

As soon as our Board of Directors gives us the go-ahead, we will start scheduling virtual and in-person appointments for veterans. I will continue to update any changes that we are making at our Veterans Foundation.

ONE AWARDS
Last week the Dale K. Graham Veterans Foundation was honored as one of the top 21 non-profit organizations in Oklahoma. With 800+ non-profits in the state, this is a great honor! The ONE Awards, presented by the Oklahoma Center for Nonprofits, honors 21 organizations in seven categories: arts and humanities, community, education, health services, self-sufficiency, transformation, and youth development.

The Dale K. Graham Veterans Foundation was awarded $5,000 for being one of three finalists in the Transformation category for superior leadership and exceptional service to our constituents and community.

VOLUNTEER TRAINING

We are VERY excited that we’ll be implementing some new software by VetPro. With this claims management system, we can collect electronic signatures, submissions, and have access to reports right at our fingertips.  It’s going to SIMPLIFY the process greatly and save a lot of time, allowing us to help the veteran that much sooner!  We have a volunteer training coming up in a couple of weeks. If you are a volunteer and did not receive the training invite by email, please email paige@dkgvf.org.

BY THE NUMBERS

Last week 17 veterans received a disability rating of 100% for their service-connected disabilities. These veterans will also be eligible for the state benefits of sales tax exemptions, property tax exemptions, and other services that our state provides for disabled veterans. Forty-six veterans were awarded disability ratings from 10% to 90. This group of men and women will be eligible for VA Health Care, and some of them may also be eligible for other state benefits. Two surviving spouses were awarded benefits.

GIVING

If you would like to help us make a difference, we welcome your support. We spend over $30,000 each month in direct support of the veterans and family members we serve. We transport many homeless veterans to our Norman location each week to help make a difference in the lives of the men and women who have served in the military.

As you know, we are a 501 (c) 3 non-profit and are wholly dependent on donations from the people we serve and local grants. A government entity does not fund us; all the funds it takes to operate our facility and assist veterans with medical testing. Other expenses come in the form of grants from local companies or other veterans. For those who would like to support the program, your gifts are always appreciated and may be tax-deductible. You can also support us by purchasing items from our Amazon charity list to stock our food pantry and shop AmazonSmile with us as the charity – we will receive .5% of your eligible purchases.

If you are interested in including us in a gift, please contact us at 405-550-8806, ext. 101. Monetary donations can be made online or mailed to PO Box 592, Washington, OK, 73093
